What is CBD?
Learn all about this amazing natural extract in our guide below.

CBD stands for Cannabidiol – a plant compound found extensively in hemp plants. Cannabis Sativa is the botanical plant name for hemp, which is a member of the Cannabaceae plant family. Cannabidiol is just one of over 80 natural plant compounds found in this species of cannabis.
CBD is a type of compound called a cannabinoid. Cannabinoids are abundant in hemp and interact with a series of receptors found in your body known as the endocannabinoid system or ECS. Studies show the ECS is involved in many of the important activities in the body.
Cannabidiol works by interacting with the body through a vast network of cannabinoid receptors, called the endocannabinoid system or ECS. When these receptors are stimulated they help the body create its own compounds called endocannabinoids.
When plants make this type of compound, they’re called phytocannabinoids. CBD is one of over a hundred type of phytocannabinoids found in hemp plants, and taking CBD is an excellent way to support your body’s production of endocannabinoids.
Full-spectrum CBD products are composed of a full range of natural cannabinoids and terpenes. This includes up to the legal limit of 0.3% THC. When taken properly, full-spectrum CBD products are still non-intoxicating.
Having an abundance of cannabinoids and other compounds such as terpenes, flavonoids, and waxes, creates an effect called ‘the entourage effect’ where each compound and additional component works in synergy together. There are many compounds other than just CBD, that also have beneficial properties, including CBN, CBG, and CBDa, just to name a few.
Our CBD comes directly from our own hemp farm here in Southwest Missouri! Farmhouse Extracts uses the highest standards of cultivation and sustainable practices to produce the highest quality hemp and CBD extract in the Midwest. We partner with a local GMP certified extraction facility that uses the most advanced hemp extraction methods.
We send manufactured products and raw materials to an external lab for evaluation. Performing tests for metals, pesticides, microbes, and cannabinoid levels. We make the resulting lab sheet available to all consumers through a simple scan of the QR code on our product labels.
No. Farmhouse Extracts’ products are all derived from hemp plants, not marijuana. Hemp and marijuana are closely related but are not the same. For instance, hemp contains no more than .3% THC – the psychoactive compound that is found in marijuana.
CBD is 100% non-psychoactive, meaning there are no mind-altering effects. We mentioned above that hemp plants contain over one hundred types of compounds. One of which is THC (tetrahydrocannabinol), the compound that causes the high associated with cannabis. Farmhouse Extracts’ CBD products are made from hemp plants that meet the legal qualifications for industrial hemp. One qualification is that the plant contains less than 0.3% THC. This minimal amount is not enough to cause a high.
As a full-spectrum cannabinoid extract, Farmhouse Extracts’ may contain a trace amount of the cannabinoid THC, less than .3%. Much like the consumption of poppy seeds may lead to a positive drug test for opioids, the consumption of full-spectrum hemp products may lead to a positive drug test for THC. THC is inherently present in trace amounts in hemp plants. The legal limit of THC in hemp is no more than 0.3%.
If you are subject to drug testing we suggest consulting your health care provider before consuming any hemp products because of individual biochemistry, the potential for the conversion of cannabinoids, and the possibility of legal trace amounts of THC in hemp products.
